Goodbye 2018, Hello 2019

Gosh, can’t believe 2018 is over! Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Honestly, 2018 has been a blur for me. Feels like I’ve been running around like a mad woman.

What am I working on right now? Well, it seems like I’ve been working on the edits for Man Behind The Uniform forever. I just can’t seem to find the time to really sit down and get it done.

Honestly, I’ll have to perhaps make a schedule to work on it after work in the evenings. It’s such a great story! I know many of the readers have been waiting anxiously for this release since Girl Behind The Veil was a crazy ending! I promise, I’m going to figure out how to get this done. The goal is to release it by April the latest!

Speaking of Girl Behind The Veil, it won the Gold Medal from Readers’ Favorite in Fiction Cultural category and also another Gold Medal from Florida Association for Publishers and Authors. I was lucky enough to attend the award ceremony in Miami to retrieve my gold medal. I met some very talented authors, and wow! What a privilege to be ranked amongst some of the top authors from all over the world. Here are some pictures:

Oh and in other great news… I was a guest on this amazing podcast called, The Things She Does! It was a new experience for me, but I think it turned out really great! Gosh, the interview was so in depth. Shout out to the host, Nickie Snyder, for having me and empowering/inspiring women all over the world. We talked about so many things, ranging from my books, being a physical therapist, being an immigrant, raising children, being a military wife, and life in general. How do we try to balance it all? What are some ways we can pursue our dreams? Would love for you to listen to this podcast. Like I said, the interview turned out great.

So what are the goals for 2019? Gosh, who knows what tomorrow will bring? But, I’ll do my best to control what I can. Goals:

  1. Publish Man Behind The Uniform
  2. Drink more water
  3. Continue to go to the gym 2-3 times a week.
  4. Spend quality time with my family
  5. Do some sort of PR for the books at least once a week.

What about you? What would you like to focus on in 2019? Remember, if you want to make changes in your life, there is no such thing as the “right” time. Start now!

As always, thank you all for your ongoing support. Here’s to an amazing 2019! Love you all. Remember, books can be found here: Amazon

Girl Behind The Veil Wins TWO Gold Medals!!

GBTVcoverwithseals

I am so so excited to share that Girl Behind The Veil won not one, but two gold medals!

FAPA (Florida Authors & Publishers Association) President’s Book Awards announced the winners recently. In their Romance Suspense category, Girl Behind The Veil took gold! I was completely surprised because I know it’s a tough competition, especially in that category. Additionally, the judges are industry professionals, publishers, and librarians. So, for them to read the story, and then award it the gold medal, is truly a humbling experience. Thank you, thank you!

This weekend, Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards just released their winners. I am honored that this heartfelt story won in Fiction Cultural category. Again, I wasn’t expecting to get first place. When I saw the list, I was shocked and had to refresh the page to make sure I saw it correctly.

Honestly, as authors, we put our heart and soul into our stories. We create these beautiful characters, and we cry with them, feel their pain, joy, fear, and triumph. Our books are our babies, and to be recognized for all the sweat and tears that was put into the writing…well, honestly, I am beyond grateful.

Girl Behind The Veil is especially emotional to me because the main character (Salena) is a victim of human trafficking. I wanted to write about this important topic because we need to do so much more with this worldwide problem. I hope with this story, it not only raises awareness, but inspires people to do something about such a horrific tragedy.

I also bring up cultural diversities, stereotypes, and acceptance. Many times, family and society say one thing, but the heart says the opposite. I can completely relate to this since I was raised in United States, but my parents are from India. It’s actually quite common to feel like you’re living two different lives (one consisting of traditional values and the other consisting of more modern, western values).

In each story I write, I leave a piece of me behind. If you haven’t read Girl Behind The Veil yet, I’d love for you to check it out. I promise it’s a story that will stay with you forever. Here’s the link: Amazon

I am proud of the recognition the rest of my books have received. Yay! Go me!

As always, thank you for your support! Have a great week!

I have more good news! My Perfect Imperfections was a featured book for a university’s book club! Yes, a university! Holy Family University in Pennsylvania discussed My Perfect Imperfections in November. Man, I’m so excited because when I wrote My Perfect Imperfections, I hoped to inspire and raise awareness. To say I was honored that this story was chosen, is an understatement. Here are some pics from the book club at the library from the university.

If anybody wants to purchase an autographed copy of any of my books, please contact me. Christmas is coming, so this may be a fantastic gift for somebody. 🙂

Lastly, I absolutely love photography. I’m really not that great at it, but I did take this pic while hiking in California one day. I liked it, so I decided to use it. I leave you with this final thought. Until next time, lovelies.

My Perfect Imperfections Wins GOLD!

mpi-cover-gold-seal

My Perfect Imperfections won the Gold Medal from Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards in Inspirational category.

I am beyond humbled for this honorable award. The story is very dear to my heart, as I have many friends with cerebral palsy.

At first, I wasn’t sure if I should write this story since I have a hard time writing about anything that’s “real.” But, once I began my research and interviewed many individuals with cerebral palsy, I knew I had to write it. I was especially moved by a young lady, Charisse Hogan, while I was doing my research. As I watched her on her YouTube videos, I knew she held nothing back. She put her heart and soul out there for the world to see.

So, I created Lily Cooper, the young girl from My Perfect Imperfections. She was not able to walk/talk, and used a power wheelchair and a communication device. Lily was a brilliant girl, but because she was “stuck in her own body,” the society wasn’t very kind to her.

I am especially proud of this story. It’s not just about raising awareness, but I wanted the readers to feel Lily’s pain, sorrow, happiness, and strength. I wanted her to live a fulfilling life as she overcame the obstacles. I wanted it to inspire not only people with cerebral palsy, but the general public. Most of all, I wanted people to fall in love with Lily and Chance.

Because this story is so very important, I am especially excited about this award. Thank you, thank you Readers’ Favorite for this honor.

Enjoy this brief excerpt from My Perfect Imperfections.

My name is Lily Cooper, and I’ve lived with cerebral palsy for eighteen years. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve learned to make the most out of my life—at least until that dreaded ride home from prom.

Once I’m secured into the van, Layna drives toward our house. Even though it has begun to rain, it doesn’t dampen my mood.

“Well?” she asks. “Wasn’t that fun?”

“Ya,” I answer, nodding my head. I can’t remember the last time I’ve felt this happy.

“Did you see James? He was dancing with that red-headed bimbo all night.”

“Ya,” I respond. I did notice it. I’m pretty sure he was upset that Layna didn’t go to prom with him and was trying to make her jealous. What an idiot!

“I guess it’s good I saw his true colors. I mean, to think I would have wasted my summer on that jerk,” Layna continues.

She’s too good for him. I’m glad she witnessed his immature behavior.

“My summer is busy anyway. I’ll be working and getting ready for college. Who has time for losers?”

Although Layna pretends like she doesn’t care, I know her better. From the way she keeps talking about it and the fact that she’s driving kind of fast around the curves, I can tell that James has upset her. Doesn’t she realize that he has nothing on her?

“I mean, I actually saw him kissing her. He knew I was right there! He totally did that on purpose!” The more Layna continues, the more worked up she’s becoming.

I desperately think of ways to try to distract her. The rain is now coming down hard, and it’s becoming near impossible to see through the windshield. I bite my lip hard to swallow a scream when I feel the tires sliding on the slippery road a few times. Layna is oblivious that she’s driving much too fast in the rain.

The headlights come from nowhere, blinding us. I blink, wondering why they are so bright. Where did they come from?

My heart stops beating. I hold my breath.

Layna slams on the brakes to avoid the collision.

“Hold on, Lily!” She spins the steering wheel and the van swerves out of control. I hear the screeching of the breaks and the deafening sound of the collision.

Everything moves in slow motion. Time stands still as the deathly silence encases me.

I hear nothing. I feel nothing. I simply float.

And then darkness swallows me.

Chaysing Destiny takes the Bronze Medal

readers favorite award banner with certificate

The 2015 Readers’ Favorite International Book Award results are in! Chaysing Destiny just won the Bronze Medal in Fiction Thriller Terrorist. Wow! Apparently, I’m a diverse writer. 😉

I am truly honored and humbled that all three books in the series have been awarded medals. Last year, Chaysing Dreams and Chaysing Memories had won Gold Medals in Romance Suspense category! I can officially say that The Chaysing Trilogy is now an award winning series.

The award ceremony is in Miami every year. Miami, here I come! 🙂

Miami Memories: Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards 2014

gold medal winners

Recently, I attended the Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards in Miami because both Chaysing Dreams and Chaysing Memories won gold medals in the Romance Suspense category.

I had promised myself that if I won a medal, I would fly down to Miami to personally accept my medal. I figured I deserved it for all of the hard work I’ve put into the books.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect there, so at first I was a bit apprehensive. I’m normally pretty social, but still it’s a bit intimidating to be around other award-winning authors. After all, I’m a “newbie.”

Let me tell you that this trip was probably one of my most memorable trips. On Friday, I was watching TV (something I never get to do anymore) in my hotel room when there was a knock at the door. I knew one of my best friends was flying in so I assumed it was her. When I opened the door, I got the shock of my life! Yes, my best friend was standing there, but so was my other best friend. They totally surprised me! She flew in all the way from LA! I couldn’t believe my eyes. You see, all three of us have been friends since fourth grade. I mean we’ve shared everything with one another. We went to the same grade school, junior high, high school, and college. We were even roommates at the university! During all of our major moments in life, we were there for one another. Even though I hate crying when it comes to my life situations, the tears managed to sneak out when I saw them. Once the shock of seeing them diminished, I knew that it was about to be one of my most memorable girls’ weekends.

We were in Miami with no responsibilities. We were excited about being outdoors with the sun baking down on us. But Mother Nature decided to bring rain and wind instead. Yes, we could have just stayed in all day, but we didn’t let the weather deter our plans. No way! We were in Miami and we had plans, damn it!

First, we headed to the Miami Book Fair. Both Chaysing Dreams and Chaysing Memories were going to be displayed in the Readers’ Favorite booth, so we definitely did not want to miss that. Words can’t describe how proud I felt when I saw my books there. I got to meet the wonderful Readers’ Favorite Team as well as other award-winning authors!

Even though the rain was coming down hard, we still headed to South Beach after the Book Fair. There was no way we were going to be in Miami and not go to South Beach. It felt like the hurricane was coming, but that didn’t stop us from sitting outside at one of the restaurants, drinking Mojitos! Oh, and did I mention that they gave us free shots? We must have stayed at that restaurant for a couple of hours catching up on life. When we finally headed to the beach, it was completely abandoned because of the rain and wind. But hey, we weren’t going to wait around for everything to clear. Instead, we danced in the rain! Our motto for the weekend? YOLO!

When we finally headed back to the hotel, I went downstairs for the Meet and Greet while my friends decided to take a quick nap. It was so nice to meet some very talented authors. Afterwards, I also attended the seminars that Readers’ Favorite had for us. They were about marketing and since I hate the marketing part of all this, they were definitely useful. Now, the challenge is how to find the time!

After the seminars, we hung out at the bar and mingled with other authors. It was nice to hear their stories, and it just felt good to be around people who got it. Finally, there were people around me who put their heart and soul into something simply because of their love and passion for their story and their writing. Nothing more.

On Saturday, we headed to South Beach once again. We simply couldn’t get enough of it, and we wanted to eat some yummy food there. We walked the boardwalk and even ran into a guy singing while playing his guitar. Yeah, a guy and his guitar: my huge weakness! He sang beautifully and with the ocean breeze caressing us, peace and serenity overcame me. Something else that was long overdue for me!

Saturday evening was the big event! Although I was a bit nervous, I was definitely more excited! I was so ready to go on that stage and get my medals. At that point, I didn’t even care if I tripped on stage with my high heels. Hell, nothing was going to stop me from that tiny moment of fame!

      awards5

Words can’t describe the feelings of pride that overpowered me when my name was called for the two books. As I walked across the stage, I just wanted to start doing cartwheels on stage. Oh, and I don’t even know how to do a cartwheel. I wanted to yell, “HELL YEAH!” My best friends were right there by the stage, cheering me on. And I thought, “Wow, this is what it’s all about.” It’s not about money or fame. It’s about being recognized for your hard work and sharing those important moments of your life with the ones who matter…the ones who will stand by you through thick and thin…the ones who have always supported you in life.

For the rest of the evening, I couldn’t stop smiling. The event was beautiful, and I was very impressed with Readers’ Favorite for all their hard work. I was in my own happy world, and nothing was going to ruin it. I mean it’s not every day that a girl wins not one, but two gold medals for her hard work. So for the remaining of the night, I let the feelings of pure bliss consume me.

We eventually headed to the bar and closed it down. I met more amazing people, and we even had a round-robin of “What’s the meaning of life?” While some kept their answers light, others gave some profound answers. Again, it was another wonderful memory for me to hold dear.

What was my answer to meaning of life? To create memories. It’s important to remember all of the events in our lives—the good and the bad. It makes us who we are today. So that weekend in Miami, I definitely created some beautiful memories not only with my best friends, but also some new friends.
